"Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be."
-Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our priority is to learn with our guests about the issues behind the service project itself - the systemic poverty, economic injustice, racism, and segregation in our community. Your trip is more than a "project" - it is a journey, meant for understanding why the organizations that you are volunteering with are needed.

At AMEN St. Louis, we don't just do one-time projects.  We connect our guests with our community by focusing on sustained volunteer partnerships with agencies that we have on-going relationships with.  We want you to get to know the people who are working to lift up our neighborhood and our city, and to offer them meaningful service that will be beneficial to the overall visions of their organizations.

Our goal is that guests leave AMEN St. Louis with a deeper understanding of what it means to serve with compassion, justice and love.  You will begin to understand the issues facing our community, and what leaders are doing to make positive changes.  We want you to return home with concrete steps about how to become an agent of change in your own community.

“If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. If you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
-Lilla Watson
